Planning Your First Guided Gravel Tour in Slovenia

How fit you need to be, what the bike situation is, what is included, and how to pick between our two 2027 routes. The questions we hear most, answered in one place.

A guided gravel trip should feel like a week of great riding with the logistics quietly handled. Most of the questions we get before someone books come down to the same handful of things, so here they are in one place.

How fit do I need to be?

Our trips assume you ride regularly and are comfortable with four to six hours in the saddle on consecutive days. Most guests train six to ten hours a week. Riding days on our 2027 trips range from about 35 km to just over 80 km, with the longest days climbing 1,200 to 1,500 m.

Every stage splits by pace, with a guide in each group, and the support van is never far away. If you want to skip a climb or cut a day short, you can.

Do I need to bring a bike?

No. A gravel bike and helmet are included on every trip, so you can fly in with your shoes, pedals and saddle if you like, and leave the bike box at home. If you would rather ride your own bike, that works too. Let us know and we will send packing guidance.

E-bikes are possible on most routes with advance notice, so we can plan charging. A few of the higher alpine days are harder to support, and we will be upfront about which ones.

What is included?

  • Hotels (3★/4★) with breakfast, and tourist tax
  • Lunches on the road, dinners in local restaurants, and daily snacks
  • Local guides on every riding day
  • A support van with a driver and technical support at all times
  • Luggage transfers between hotels
  • A gravel bike and helmet
  • Pick-up and drop-off at Ljubljana airport or in Ljubljana

What is not included: getting to Slovenia, travel insurance, optional activities, and the single supplement if you would rather not share a room.

What about the weather?

Mountain weather changes fast and our guides plan for it. Every route has lower alternatives, and the van is always close by. We ride in the rain, but we do not ride into storms.

Which trip is right for me?

Julian Alps & Soča Valley

Nine days, 415 km and about 7,200 m of climbing. This is the mountain trip: Bled, Bohinj, Kranjska Gora, the climb over Vršič Pass, and the Soča Valley down to Goriška Brda. It has one departure in 2027, June 9 to 17. See the Julian Alps trip.

Epic Slovenian Gravel Roads

Eight days, 410 km and about 6,000 m of climbing, from Ljubljana through the karst and wine country to Piran on the Adriatic. It is a little less climbing and a lot of variety, with departures on May 22 to 29 and September 8 to 15, 2027. See the Ljubljana to Piran trip.

Traveling as a group?

If you have your own group, we can build a custom trip around your dates, your riders and the kind of days you want, in Slovenia, Croatia or both. Send us a note with your group size and rough dates and we will come back with a route and a quote.
